ABOUT THE FIRE DEPARTMENT

Alamo Township Fire Department is a paid-on-call department located 5 miles northwest of the City of Kalamazoo, Michigan. We are a rural community that is 36 square miles in size with a combination of residential, agricultural, industrial, and commercial properties. Our response area also covers the U.S. 131 expressway which is a major transportation artery between Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids. We currently have 21 very dedicated and highly trained personnel providing fire suppression, fire prevention, and emergency medical services to approximately 4600 permanent residents. Although we don’t have 24-hour staffing at our fire station, we are available to assist the community at any moment.

The Department’s goal is to provide a safe and effective fire department for the community. We believe we have worked hard and will continue to work hard to achieve new goals and ensure a safe community.

PUBLIC WELCOME

Our officers of the department meet 7pm – 8pm on the 4th Monday of every month to discuss various topics such as future training, public education, and other administrative items. These meetings are open to the public and citizen input is welcome. Please stop in and let us know if we can improve our services to the community.

BURN PERMITS

Open burning is limited to brush and yard debris ONLY in Alamo Township. Fire rings (i.e. campfires) do not need a permit. To obtain a burn permit, please send an e-mail that contains your name, address and when you plan to burn. If you are planning to burn on more than one day, you may list multiple days. Approximate times that burning is planned for each day is helpful. Your permit will be promptly returned by return e-mail. If you do not have access to e-mail, you may call the fire station a minimum of 12 hours prior to burning and leave your name, address, phone number and approximate time burning will take place. If the Fire Chief and/or member of the Fire Department see burning conditions harmful to persons or property, the Fire Department is required to have the fire extinguished.
